What is exactly a Spiritual Journey? A spiritual journey is something that is unique to each individual. According to Planet of Success, a spiritual journey is a very individual and intimate quest to consciously deepen your insight about life. The journey can help them to better understand their purpose in life… to be more at peace with yourself and the world. It can be a fantastic opportunity to let go of the past and to stop worrying about the future.

Whether you are going through grief, trauma, or anything that is making you feel down and don’t know where to start, this blog post is for you. Those that know me, I recently lost my sweet Dad before the holidays of 2020….a year that no one will ever forget. By losing my Dad, I also lost a big part of me and who I was. I didn’t think I could ever bring myself back up and was having such a difficult time accepting that I can no longer see or speak to my Dad again. I’m still healing and writing this post is actually THE most heartfelt blog post that I have ever written… but my heart was telling me that I needed to do this. Not only in the memory of my beloved Dad but it may also help someone else out there that could be going through something similar or need some kind of encouragement.
Knowing that it’s a process, I had to start somewhere. I decided to take action and got more intrigued into spirituality. Something I’ve always been interested about but never really practiced into my daily routine. So, I learned that in order to connect with myself, learn to accept as well as letting go and slowly heal; I need to start my spiritual journey. By doing so, this journey has changed my life…
In this blog post, I’m going to share with you a simple guide to help you start your spiritual journey. I’m also going to share with you some of the methods and sources I used, how it has helped me so far and what I’ve learned. You can choose what method works best for you or do all…remember this is just baby steps. As for my experience, it has brought me some inner peace and a clear, positive outlook in my life. It can very well do the same for you too…you just have to start and believe in yourself.
- MEDITATE – Sometimes we let too many thoughts run through our mind. By meditating, this helps quiet your mind by focusing on your breathing. You want to find a quiet place where you can sit down and practice this, I find wearing headphones helps me focus better. By meditating, I’ve learned having a clear mind to start your day is so refreshing. Great practice for your spiritual journey.
- I listen to Sarah Raymond called the Mindful movement and here’s one of her videos that I’ve linked for you:
- MANIFEST – Using the Law of Attraction. I got inspired by listening to a motivational speaker that goes by the name of Abraham Hicks. I actually listen to her on a daily basis and it has become a ritual. By manifesting {using the Law of Attraction} it has helped change my way of thinking and connecting with the universe. I learned to be more positive vibrationally. It’s all about having a good energy within you and it has helped me stay more aligned throughout my journey.
- Here’s one of her videos that I’ve linked for you:
- Listen to AFFIRMATIONS and write them down in a journal. Choose ones you like, you can recite them out loud or to yourself. I usually like to write them on my journal because I can go back to it when I want. By doing this, it has helped me feel more empowered within myself.
- Here is one of my favorite affirmations I’ve linked for you:
Here are some more useful sources to help guide you to start your spiritual journey.
Vision Board
Vision boards help bring your desires to life. You can create one of your own by finding inspirational pics or find one you like on line. The one I used comes as an all in one kit from Amazon. {I will link all my sources on my ‘Shop This Post’ link for you}. This kit includes pics, quotes and other fun little things like a key, pen, charm…just to name a few. You can either hang the board against your wall or close like a book and place it on your shelf. I have mines closed like a book and open it whenever I like. It is really fun to do & I enjoyed creating it.
The Power of Now
One of the best selling books by Eckhart Tolle. This book was recommended by a dear friend of mine and it is just absolutely amazing. This book has taught me the importance of being present. What that really means is; enjoy the moment NOW in the present. The past doesn’t exist because it’s gone. The future doesn’t really exist either because it is just our imagination and therefore it is not here yet. So be present and enjoy everything NOW.
Here’s one of my favorite quotes from this book:
What you think of the past is a memory trace, stored in the mind, of a former Now. When you remember the past, you reactivate a memory trace and you do so now. When you think about the future, you do it now. Past and future obviously have no reality of their own.

Mindful Journal
One of the best methods I really enjoy doing when I started my spiritual journey is writing. I got myself a couple different journals and it only takes a few min to write down what your feeling for the day. Journals like this helps you feel more positive and sometimes it’s okay if we’re not having a good day. Writing that down helps get things off our chest. Remember, we are taking baby steps. See below for the inside.
This is how it looks inside…
Most of these mindful journals have headlines that help you jot down a few things about your day or how your feeling. For instance; this journal asks things like:
*What did you do for yourself this week?
*How did you listen to yourself this week?
*How can you be more present with yourself?
Daily Journal/ Notebooks
I can’t tell you how much this has been changing my life since I started my spiritual journey. Just the power of free writing is so captivating. Not only do I write some of my favorite affirmations but I also write down my goals or just random thoughts of the day. We are living in a world where many of us don’t hand write anymore so starting to do this more frequently has really become the highlight of my day.
Stickers to add in your planner
These are literally so adorable! It really makes it fun to add some colorful and inspiring stickers to your journal. I’ve linked everything below.

Going through a spiritual journey is just so beautiful and rewarding. Ever since I started, I’m gradually learning to accept things that are out of my control and letting go of things that no longer serves me…I’m grateful for that. By applying these methods into my daily routine; I’ve also become more connected with myself and the energy with the universe. I like to believe that my sweet Dad is not really gone and is still here with us in spirit. He comes to my dreams at times and I remember them so vividly than ever before… I’m so happy to see him visit me in my dreams. Going through my journey not only has made me feel more connected with my Dad but within myself and the universe…all that brings peace in my heart. I’ve come a long ways from where I initially started and I couldn’t be more grateful. This is something I’m going to continue to implement in my life. If you are looking to have more of a deeper connection with yourself, you just have to start and believe in yourself.

Hello Laila! I found your blog through Rhoda at Southern Hospitality via Shabbyfufu. Your gorgeous home was featured and I was enthralled. I love love love your style! So sorry for the loss of your dad. You are on the right path, healing through spirituality and mindfulness. I look forward to following your blog and journey, plus your great taste in decor. All the best!
Thank you for this. My friend and I both experienced trauma recently. My spiritual journey started last year I’m still a beginner. I received a visitation dream from my friends son who is deceased, that led me to introduce her to the idea of starting her spiritual journey. His message led me to believe she should.
